What Retargeting Pixels Do
Retargeting pixels let you bridge the gap between offline physical interactions and online digital advertising. By firing marketing script tags when users scan your dynamic QR codes, you can cookie their browsers and add them to custom advertising audiences on major social and search networks.
For example, when a customer scans a QR code on a store window, billboard, or product package:
- They are added to your Meta Custom Audience or Google Ads Remarketing List.
- They later see targeted remarketing ads for your business when browsing Facebook, Instagram, or Google.
- This significantly increases conversion rates compared to single-touch offline campaigns.
Plan Tier Availability
Retargeting pixels require advanced tracking features. They are available on:
- Pro+ and Pro++ plans
- Team, Team+, and Team++ plans
- Enterprise plans
Trial and standard Pro plans do not support retargeting pixel tracking configurations.

The platform native script builder supports four major pixel formats:

AW-123456789). - Google Tag Manager (GTM): Input your Container ID (e.g.,

Step-by-Step Configuration
Follow this workflow to assign retargeting pixels to your dynamic QR codes:
Step 1: Find Your Pixel ID
Locate your tracking pixel ID from your respective advertising dashboard (Meta Events Manager, Google Ads Audience Manager, or TikTok Events Manager).
Step 2: Open the QR Generator or Editor
- Go to Generator (
/generate) or select Edit on an existing QR code. - Scroll to the Advanced Settings accordion.
- Expand Marketing Retargeting Pixels.
Step 3: Enter and Save IDs
- Paste the relevant Pixel ID(s) into their corresponding input boxes.
- Click Create QR Code or Save Settings.
- The platform will automatically insert the script tracking tag before redirecting visitors who scan that code.
Privacy Compliance (POPIA and GDPR)
Firing retargeting pixels on user devices constitutes processing of personal tracking data under both South African and international privacy frameworks.
To stay compliant:
- Disclose Tracking: Ensure your organization's Privacy Policy explicitly discloses the use of retargeting cookies and advertising tags.
- Obtain Consent: If you are target-marketing EU residents (GDPR) or South African citizens (POPIA), ensure the landing pages they are redirected to have a working cookie consent banner where they can opt out.
- Minimize Collection: Only attach tracking pixels to campaigns where remarketing campaigns are actively running.
Troubleshooting Pixel Firing
If your custom audiences are not populating as expected, perform these troubleshooting checks:
- Verification of ID: Double-check that you entered only the numeric/alphanumeric ID and not the entire embed code snippet.
- Browser Extensions: Ad blockers or privacy-focused browsers (such as Brave) may block tracking pixels. Always test using a clean browser profile or device.
- Plan Check: Ensure the owner of the QR code has an active Pro+ or higher subscription.
- Pixel Helper Tools: Use extensions like the Meta Pixel Helper or Google Tag Assistant to verify tags are firing when visiting the redirect link.
